Artist Residencies
Monique Martin and Jeremy Williams have joined forces on an innovative project leveraging technology to provide direct support to artists engaged in residency programs and the organizations hosting them. Their collaboration stemmed from their involvement in Building Demand for the Arts (BDA) , a 3-year national grant program initiated by the Doris Duke Foundation. BDA redefined the conventional artist residency model by supporting multi-year collaborative projects between artists and arts organizations, emphasizing the cultivation of demand for the arts through thought partnership and transforming systems of operations. Both Martin and Williams are prolific generative artists and independent producers with extensive experience participating in and designing various artist residency programs. Their expertise spans across collaborations with prominent arts organizations, higher education institutions, and philanthropic foundations. What unites them is their shared dedication to fostering collective learning experiences that propel both individuals and the broader artistic field forward.

Artist Residencies: Transforming the Field through Sustainable Support
As organizations emerge from the pandemic with a commitment to support artists, many have established or expanded residency programs. With this exciting new support in our field, we find ourselves in a reflective moment that raises critical questions: What resources are essential for a successful residency? How is community fostered during the creative process? What role does the organization play? How can organizations and artists continue to benefit after a residency? This panel brings together experienced voices in designing, producing, and participating in artist residencies, offering attendees tools to create equitable residencies that enhance current and future programs.
